Work Experience At Factory Create

Today I had a day of work experience at a company near me called Factory Create. I had this as a placement between 10am-6pm and I learnt a lot about the company and how production worked for a stop motion studio.

I started by getting shown around one of their studios which was where the majority of all the stop motion development took place, I saw all the different rooms where the production was in progress. I saw the storage rooms where they keep used sets and props, the prop development rooms where they paint and improve props, the studio where they take the shots of the animation they are producing, plus many more.

The company had multiple warehouses where they created different things for the animations. Another warehouse which they owned had a bunch of 3D printers in it where they printed out parts for character and props they used, they also had a metal room where they cut and modified metal into specific chosen shapes. Another warehouse that I visited was filled with computers and focused on the CGI and special effects side of the production. The people working there were focusing on blending in the mouths of any characters which needed it, removing any green/blue screen and replacing it with a suitable background and doing anything else which would have been difficult or nearly impossible with just stop motion.

After getting shown around and learning a lot about the company I was asked to firstly sort out some old props and organize them with another member of staff so they were easier to identify by colour. After doing this I was moved onto painting some of their props which was enjoyable and also onto sanding down parts of characters which had lines which weren’t wanted on them after coming out of the printer.

Overall I really loved my time at Factory Create and would love to maybe have a longer period of time where I could get work experience from them.
